Notes
As promised, more pictures of my s400 mono. Pictures were taken
with the 7.2V Viper Black race and the 38mm prop.
My
boat is a modified Mosquito from Hopf-Modelltechnik. Actually this
is a small 6 or 7 cell stepped mono designed for the NAVIGA mono
I class. Modifikations were made to the rear step. It had an angle
to the front step before and now is parallel. The height of the
step increased a little too. The baot is equipped with a 2mm straight
shaft with BBs and a light self made rudder. It has a micro servo,
a micro ACT receiver and a Schulze Slim 18 controller in it.
I'm running it with 7 cells Sanyo AR 700, pushed by Hopf. Equipped
with a Speed 400 motor it weights 520g ready to race. First I started
with a Viper 400 Black Race 7.2V from Hopf and a 31mm brass prop.
Speed was ok but not very fast and I got more then 7 min runtime.
I moved up to a 35mm brass prop and then to a 38mm thinned stainless
steel copy of a Octura X438. Speed was then above 20mph, runtime
still above 6min. Motor and cells were cool. Then I timed the motor
and the boat got noticable faster (around 25mph), but the motor
got extreamly hot. I did 2 times 13 laps in 5min with this setup
at the Moers race this year, but ruined a motor every heat.
I did some further experiments and now I'm running a Speed 400 4.8V
with a 28mm stainless steel prop. Runtime is slightly below 5min
now but the speed is impressive: above 30mph. Next I will thin the
prop and add some speed rails to the rear step. I hope this will
increase runtime above 5min. Here are two action photos shot by
the delta echo team in Moers this year. |

Check the rudder bracket
- very light weight.
