Hi
Trent, Been building microboats for about 4 years and racing in
the UK eco 400 class. Got 2nd in UK championships 1999 and 2000
with home designs. This year I,m racing a Hopf Bingo (Mk2) and doing
well. Also race in NFERC with Ernie and Ian (Electro Marine). Just
built a micro rigger and it's on the bench for mods! Great idea
for a site, lets pool ideas from around the planet!!
There is a picture of my Eco 400 (top picture) from the 2000 season
attached to this message. I came 2nd overall in the Championship
and my buddy came third with his. (Same design, same racing colours)
I called the boat Mini-Mental, it was 14.5 inches long with a beam
of 5 inches. 7 x 800 AR cells and a 4.8 volt Graupner speed 400
with a 23mm prop. please let me know if it arrives safely!!
My 400 Mini-Rigger is still under development and this was taken
on it's first run about 4 weeks ago. It's fast but I think we can
go faster. Not too good in the turns yet as I'm trying to set it
up to race round a triangular course (5 minutes) so they are just
a bit hard to negotiate.
Here are some pics of a micro-mono (yellow boat) I built just for
sport earlier this year. It is based on a model I built to race
in 1999 called Miss Stress. This caused quite a stir and there was
some debate about whether it was a mono or multi-hull. It became
a public debate in Marine Modelling International and in the end
it was Ed Hughey who came to my rescue! He said that a guy in the
States had used a similar design and won one of the national mono
titles. Anyway, although the larger model was a real runner (12
cells + 8.4 BBTurbo) it did not translate too well down in scale
to the smaller model. Still it's fun to run, good to look at and
was a real challenge to build! |
